I have occasional black spots in my eyes. Sometimes I can only see out of half each of my eyes. I don't wear glasses. Could anyone help as to what this may be, should I go and see the doctor / optition?

  • ophthalmic migraines can cause your symptoms, but so can other bad things (strokes, tumors, etc). you should go see an ophthalmologist...

  • Most likely this is a symptom of HIV/AIDS. You may lose your eyesight if not treated promptly.AcuannDOM

  • I get black spots too. sort of like when a flash of a camera goes off and leaves you with this black area in your visual field. They happen more and more lately and last longer and longer. I do get migraines with scitoma but these are different. I have an appt with opthamologist coming up and will discuss this with him. I have sjogren's syndromeand my eyes have been extra dry of late also. I hope he gives me an rx for restasis. Anyone else have this experience?HOKEY

  • @hokey:you mentioned in another post that you have arteriosclerosis. it would be important in your case to mention this to your ophthalmologist as the concern would be that you are having episodes of amaurosis fugax (transient ischemic attacks to the eye) caused by carotid stenosis or thromboembolic phenomena.

  • Thanks, will do. All my Docs are in the same group or system. They always pull up my History and all of the medications that I am currently taking. It sure makes it easier for me not having to recant everything over and over. I just see the appropriate MD, give them any new problems and let them connect the dots. Hokey

  • hi All, Saw the opthamologist and he didn't see any problems with my retina. I told him about the black spots and he asked me if they were in one eye or both. When I told him I could still see it with both eyes closed he seemed to think it was something originating from the brain....OK.YIKES....NOW I'M SCARED. Going to neurologist next, will update after visit. Hokey
