Any ideas about this?

I started seeing very small 'star' type of flashes of light in my left eye a few weeks ago, a bit like a camera flash going off. It would happen quite regularly but I really only noticed it at night time. At the same time I noticed the pupil in that eye would be slightly larger upon waking in the morning when i went from my semi dark bedroom to the bright bathroom. This would also happen at night after watching tv with the lights off and then go into bathroom (lights on). My pupil would go back to normal within 15 minutes. I went and had my 2 year checkup at the optometrist and he said its probably the vitreous detaching, and if it didn't settle down in a week to go to my GP {i am 46 yrs old}. This was about a month ago, and since then the star flashes have gone away, but they've been replaced by lightening like flashes, and still with the pupil thing happening. I don't have any other symptoms - but I recently found out I have a thoracic scoliosis after complaining to my doc about back pain and headaches. Anyone shed some light on this?
