As if endo isn't bad enough we get these cruel and/or ignorant people and doctors (mostly men) making things worse.

Do these quotes sound familiar? If they don't then lucky you.

"Just get pregnant"; "it's your fault";
"You just need to get laid real good"; "You should exercise more";
"You're depressed"; "It's in your head";
"It's because you waited to get pregnant";
"It's because of the way you live, the way you eat, etc.";
"You should pray or pray more"; "Just take some aspirin.";
"Are you feeling better these days?, What, you still don't feel better? I am surprised. (As if it is just going to go away for no reason, DUH)";
"You don't LOOK sick"; "You'll be okay"

And others who have known for awhile that you don't feel well they say some things like: "Let's go for a bike ride." or "Why don't you want to go do (whatever it is)?"; "What's wrong?"; "Why are you limping, hunching over, etc.?"; "You sleep too much."; "You're lazy."; "You are a ****r."

Then they presume to know how you feel even better than you do saying stuff like:
"You pretend like it's way worse than it is"; "It's not that bad.";
"You're faking."; "You just want attention."

GOD!!! like the pain and no longer living a real life anymore isn't bad enough......but we have to live with this kind of crap as well, including opposition from doctors, insurance companies, and Social Security disability, whose purpose is to spend our money trying to keep it from us while we go through a very long, long waiting period and jumping through hoops because we KNOW how bad it is and that we DO deserve it because we cannot work and also therefore cannot afford insurance to get medical treatment that (longshot) may offer some relief. At the least we need pain management docs and meds. (Unfortunately that's the only thing that make any difference for me.) But without insurance (which I cannot afford. I already spent my life savings trying to get better.) it has been highly difficult to even try any other treatments. (The only thing left to try is trigger point therapy and more nerve block injections.)

For those who have this disease...
I understand and hope you will find something that works for you.

For those who know someone who has this...
PLEASE be understanding, she is doing ALL she can... and then some. She is NOT FAKING it. She feels terrible and is going through the worst thing in her life. She NEEDS your support. She is not lazy or trying to get a free ride. (She has worked hard through her life and has been self suficient. Someone doesn't leave a good career and go through surgeries just to get a hand out. IT IS REAL and real painful.
Men: Imagine being kicked in the nuts...now imagine feeling that same way every second of every day for years...that's as close a comparison I can imagine.)

PLEASE Don't abuse, second guess her or abandon her. She hates to have to ask for help so offer it to her and be kind. AND, be glad that you don't feel like she does.

God bless you.

  • Yes this sounds very familiar I lived with it since age 12 shortly after getting my period. All those quotes are exactly what i have heard. Do you have endometriosis? That is what I had took years to diagnose and also I finally was diagnosed with Interstitial cystitis often overlooked and told it wsa in my head. Spent a fortune on doctors and physciatrists. Have you heard of it? Sometimes found in conjunction with endo and without.

  • I was diagnosed at age 11 (youngest in history)after severe vomiting of bile and 104 fever. They ran test after test on me for days. The finally did exploritory surgery. They wanted to do a complete hysterectomy when they found what they did but my mother told them no. I underwent an 8 hour surgery. The endo was all over my bowels and inside the cavity. It was on my left lung. I underwent surgeries every year until my senior year. My Senior year I was also diagnosed with Polycistic ovaries as well. They did a laperotomy (hospitalized for 3 weeks) and took off 3/4 of both ovaries. They took off growths where there was not to be any again. See endo bleeds every month like your lining. It sluffs off and grows again where it attaches itself. How it entered the abdominal cavity was via the falopian tubes (open ended).Life for me was horrible and all the time I spent in the hospital I never graduated high school. The school took my credits away and my mother was not a fighter. I was made fun of and it really hurt. People said I had a baby when I was gone. I was so very thin I do not know how they could have thought this. My friends came together and I was voted Princess of the Sweetheart Ball at my High School my Jr. year. That made me feel much better knowing there were only just a few jerks in the bunch. I ended up in the hospital soon after this was over again.I have had three beautiful children. Remarried and was pregnant with twins. I almost bled to death with them. I had to have an emergency histerectomy(?spelling).I have come to deal with it and accept. Try to learn all that you can about it and you can fight it. If you do not believe in your doctor and most don't then find another. Unfortunatly that road has to be traveled so often! I wish you well.I now have MS so if I did not spell correctly I am so very sorry.

  • :confused: The reason that i ask questions about a condition are so that i can google up an appropiate answer. For instance, there was a person asking for an answer to a problem that had to do with toxicity. So i took some time to try & find an appropiate answer. In that case the answer is as follows. http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/uscities/contents.asp Now if you would be so kind, click on what i considered to be an appropiate answer. Thank You.

  • I found this page while doing a search on Endo and was bothered by hogndog's comments to some of the post. You must think having to deal with Endo is a joke or something. Well let me tell you it is no laughing matter! For you to say the things you say leads me to believe you are in the forum just to irritate people. Just because you google conditions does not mean your are providing any kind of help. ***t, if they found this site I am pretty sure they've read the same B.S that your posting links to. Try to be more considerate to their feelings before you respond.

I am surprised. (As if it is just going to go away for no reason, DUH)"; "You don't LOOK sick"; "You'll be okay" People don't mean to be insensitive (sometimes) but they are a lot of the time. They just don't know what you are going through, and in the effort to try to say something helpful, they put thier foot deep down their throat. I was having a period of depression and became seriously suicidal. When I tried to tell my sister she told me to "get over my pity party". Years went by, and she had some depression, and the whole conversation came rolling back to her. It was a complete turnaround. She was saying the exact same things to me that I had said to her back then, and when I told her I understood and that she needed to see her doctor, it occurred to me that if I had not been through this already I may not have said the right thing. You are in a good place now, talking to people who have been through your pain, so don't try to talk to those who don't know. Maybe you can see a counselor, too. Going through physical pain can make you depressed, and depression causes physical pain. The two just go together. It's not all in your head, but you can't suffer such pain for so many years without some sort of psychological effect, IMO.

  • sad to say,but i think that hogndog prowls these forums in search of the emotionally vulnerable so that he can preach to them.like a sort of holy joe vampire ambulance chaser.his underlying idea ,i think ,is the ancient and cruel view that illness is gods judgement on the sinful.(it isnt).i dont mind him being a lonely man,there is more than enough of that about,but i do object to his wish to further confuse and upset the people who ask for help here.

  • ok you the one who is irritating ppl.i would like for you to imagine someone has gotton hold of your insides and is ringing them out,then i would like for you to imagine the emotional heartbreak of not being able to pick up your little girl when she scrapes her knee and is crying and trying to explain to a two year old that mummy cant hold you right now because she can barely move with pain.i would like for you to imagine going to the doctors because you cant live like this anymore just to be told its all in your head and every woman has periods like this.i would like for you to imagine not being able to have intercourse with your partner for almost two years because its so painful,and lastly i would like for you to get a bit of compassion for people who live with this hellhole of an illness every day of their lives wishing their life was over because the pain it not worth living for.i also would like you to say sorry to all the people who you have just *****d off or crawl back into your hole and play with toys.
