"old blood"

I am 43, and was told a couple of years ago I was perimenopausal. I have been regular, and not on any hormone or herbal therapy.
For the last few months a couple of days before my period I would have "old blood" spotting prior to starting my period then for a couple of days after. The periods have been mostly normal, 1 heavy day out of the last 5 or so months. Today I started my period again, 10 days after the start of the last cycle. For the last 3 days I have had heavier than normal spotting of old blood.
I had a pelvic (transvaginal) ultrasound that showed a possible fibroid, but was inconclusive. Sex hormones have been tested, all normal. My adrenal test was done in the evening and elevated, no results yet on the morning test.
I have sleep apnea, fibromyalgia...have been dealing with odd health issues for the last year, mostly related to sleep deprivation, most have resolved.

I can't find anything on old blood being discharged...I keep thinking it's endometriosis, but I have not had the heavy bleeding, other than 1 "blow out" last fall. My doc wants to do a CTscan, but I am having to delay it as I am awaiting spinal surgery for a badly ruptured disc (like I said, it's been a weird health year).
Any advice, or words of wisdom to keep me from worrying myself crazy in the mean time?
