I was wondering if anyone that has or ever had Cushings knows that if a person already has Cushing's, but not from steriods, and he or she gets a steriod shot or takes prednisone if it can accelerate the condition, etc. Say for instance a person has it and doesn't know and the symptoms started after only a few rounds of prednisone and two shots. I supsect I may have it four years prior to the shots. My actual "cushing symptoms" began about six to eihgt months after. They are gradual over the past five years but every few months or so, especially in the last year, I keep adding symptoms. I won't go into the symptoms I was just curious about the shots, etc. thanks to anyone who can answer.

  • I would think you would have noticed some symptoms PRIOR to the shots. You could have Steroid Induced Cushing's, and this can be helped by stopping any corticosteroid meds. Do you still take these medications? If you aren't taking them now, has it helped your symptoms? I have a pituitary tumor causing the Cushing's, so I am not sure how steroid induced presents clinically.

I had right sided facial paralysis, right sided weakness, right hand tremors, electric shock sensations in head, terrible tinnitis, and more. The got better about 2000 but always and still have terribel fatigue adn soem weakness. I broke out with horrible eczema, which i never had before, in early 2002. Had first shot in May and then three months later. Between 2002 and 2006 had about five or six short courses of prednisone. Last year, all in six months, I wsa diagnosed wtih severe hypertension, high cholesterol, polycystic ovary disease (I am infertile and saw a fertility specialist in 2000 for a year and he never dx me with this so i am doubting it), insulin resistence, circulatroy problems, osteoathritis in my hands, not too severe, I also had they think a TIA. I have had six visual disturbacnes, like i am looking through running water and things are disappearing. I am 36 and always weighed 110 lbs until 2002. From that point i have struggled wtih some weight gain, about 20 lbs, and have a hard time losing. I don;t know what to make of all of this. Unfortunatley, neither do the doctors. thanks for your reply!!

  • I had steriod-induced Cushing's which is slowly resolving inself. The steriod in body tissue was "mis-read" by the pituitary gland, so I had secondary adrenal insuffiency at the same time. Weird, but diagnosed by doctors at the Mayo Clinic. Since the pituitary and adrenal glands have to be in sync in order to produce the necessary amount of cortisol all day, I don't see why you couldn't have low or unstable pituitary or adrenal function and therefore have the fluctuating symptoms you're experiencing. A 24 hour cortisol test is good, but have you ever heard of an ACTH challenge test? see http://www.lef.org/protocols/prtcls-txt/t-prtcl-002.html. It's a test that forces your adrenal glands to produce cortisol on cue. It's worth try.

  • It sounds like you have Lyme Disease. Go online to Igenex and get their kit to get your blood tested. You should also see a Lyme Literate Doctor in your area. Mainstream doctor will probably dismiss your symptoms as lyme but you defnitely sound like you have Lyme disease.I had really odd scary symptoms from 1996 - 2000. Not cushing symtoms.
