Just got back from dr. my son gained 11 pounds since Nov. He's now 133 pounds. We went to an endocrinologist on 11/1, he wasn't concerned with weight only cholesterol. Sent us to nutritionist - - got appt. 12/19; I've been watching what my son eats since the summer and he keeps gaining weight instead of losing. I'm so scared right now, I can't stop crying. I know in my gut and in my heart that something's not right, but no one is listening....if I hear no cookies or soda once more I'll scream. He stopped drinking soda almost 2 years ago. I don't buy cookies, we use skim milk, low fat cream cheese, I don't buy juices, he loves fruits and vegetables....Does anybody have any suggestions on what this could be or what I can do?

Please help!!!!

  • Has he started puberty yet? What is his height? Have they checked Aldosterone, Renin, GH, Cortisol, fasting glucose? I had the weight issue, which was diagnosed as early puberty, which I now know was the Cushing's.

  • How tall is your son? I live in Texas and we grow 'em big out here, but even 133 pounds is high for a nine year old unless he is at or over five feet tall. I coach sports and in football we have healthy 125 lb 9 year-old kids at 4'9" and above. These kids are about 5-10 lbs overweight, but I would not say they were obese in any way ... they can run quickly and for long distance ( 1 mile). So you have to keep that in perspective with weight. If this is not applicaple, and the amount/types of food as well as lack of physical activity are definitely not the source of your child's weight gain, it could be thyroid. All the best.
