If I have a hypoactive thyroid, shouldn't I have gained weight? I am not trying to gain any, just feel like the diagnosis is off or incomplete.

  • Your body doesn't necessarily gain weight with Hashis until the thyroid atrophys or your function is severly affected by the antibodies. When you are under the influence of antibodies you can actually also swing over into hyper. It depends very much on your Ft3 and FT4 levels too.lotsa luvDawnx

  • You don't always get all the symptoms. Do you have an elevated TSH and a low FT4? If so you are hypo. And also hypothyroidism can be a secondary illness, so it could be caused by another illness. Kiera

  • If I have a hypoactive thyroid, shouldn't I have gained weight? I am not trying to gain any, just feel like the diagnosis is off or incomplete. I have also been told that I have hypothyriodism, but in that same breath...the Drs. have also told me that I am hyper. But I too am not gaining weight...if anything I have been losing. I'm on the smaller side anyway 5'7" and usually 120-125lbs., but lately I have been around 112lbs.I have been researching alot on my own and have come to find that it is pretty much up to myself to get a diagnosis. I think that I do have a thyriod problem, but am searching for what has caused it. I dont think that this just fell on me out of no where.Anyway, I feel you on the "off" or "incomplete" diagnosis!
