I am considering seeing an endocrinologist soon but need some advice first:

During my last routine physical with PCP, the following came back in my test results:

My TSH 3rd Generation reads 6.03 (when normal is .04 - 4.50) I dont know the rest of my numbers off hand but my dr. said these werent bad and I should come back in 6 months for another blood test. However I feel that is long to wait and may see someone sooner.

Ok - here are my symptons, I have had these most of my life but never thought anything of it! I am 30 yrs old.

-Intolerance to cold (seems to be getting worse as I am older)
-Low body temperature - 96-97 degrees F
-Long and heavy mentrual periods (the heavyness has gotten BAD recently)
-Raynauds Disease - fingers and toes turn white in the cold but this has lessened as I cut out caffeine
-Hair Loss - I have a huge head of hair and everyone says I still have a lot of hair but I think I lose alot and not sure what is normal
- Mitro Valve Prolapse (MVP) - irregular heartbeats
-Short-term memory seems to be bad but not sure
-Always tired in the mornings even after 7-8 hrs of sleep. But have enough energy throughout the day and work out regularly
-Constipation - if I eat right (ie lots of fiber and veggies) I notice this goes away
- Skin is not overly dry
- Libido is ok
- no depression but am irritable sometimes mostly when nagged

Also not sure if this is important but had a bad case of mono (diagnosed with Epstein Bar at age 12 and had two relapses) - 2nd relapse was bad and caused a string of other health issues, chronic tonsilitis for 1+ yr, erythema nodosum (bumps on legs), etc.

  • Definitely hypothyroid...it sounds like Hashimoto's, in which case your TSH should be somewhere around 1.5. You would benefit from going on thyroid replacement therapy. Find a good endo who knows where your all of your numbers should be (TSH, T3,T4) and who will listen to you. If they're telling you you're normal and you feel horrible, find someone else.

  • You know what? You're normal. I don't know what the test result means (TSH 3rd Generation reads 6.03 ) but if your doctor says its fine, then its fine.-Intolerance to cold + Low body temperature - 96-97 degrees F - both aspects of Raynaud's, which you note that cutting back on caffeine helps, as presumably does wrapping up warmly."-Constipation - if I eat right (ie lots of fiber and veggies) I notice this goes away" - well then you know what to do. Of course eating unhealthily causes constipation; we didn't evolve to eat ready meals and processed foods; its bad for us."-Hair Loss - I have a huge head of hair and everyone says I still have a lot of hair but I think I lose alot and not sure what is normal" - its normal for hair to fall out. If you get bald patches, where you can actually see your scalp, that's a problem but otherwise, its really not.-Always tired in the mornings even after 7-8 hrs of sleep. But have enough energy throughout the day and work out regularly - some people take a while to get going in the morning. If your energy levels are fine throughout the day then again this isn't a symptom or a problem.-Short-term memory seems to be bad but not sure- Skin is not overly dry- Libido is ok- no depressionSo again, you don't actually have these symptoms.-Long and heavy mentrual periods (the heavyness has gotten BAD recently)- Mitro Valve Prolapse (MVP) - irregular heartbeats---these are issues that need to be followed up - has the MVP been diagnosed by a doctor? Is it something that needs medication? The Pill will help with the periods; it did for me.Ok you've had some rough patches previously health-wise but you're now a healthy and fit person. You've just had a routine physical that came back fine. Why are you worrying?
