approximately, two weeks ago I notice that my left elbow was much larger
than my right elbow. It is swollen and spongy, but no pain. I have no problems in use or movement. How do i treat this to make it go back to normal size.

  • You might try researching "Elbow Bursitis"

  • That is how I got to this site. Same situation. Right elbow, large, soft, spongy, no pain yet. Cannot recall any trauma to elbow.

  • Bursitus - buy you a velcro elbow bandage at Wal Mart for about $10 and wear it when not sleeping. Mine swelling has gone down from the size of a door ***b to almost to normal in two weeks. BTW, doctor diagnosed this - said to use an ace bandage - the slip over velroo bandage at wal mart is much better.

  • I have the same problem... puffy elbow without pain. I think, in my case, it comes from working on the computer. My right arm is always up working the mouse while my left elbow constantly rests (and pivots) while working the keyboard. My left elbow is constantly supporting my upper arm as it moves across the keyboard but never gives me pain unless I'm wearing a sweater or some other rough textured clothing... and then its only on the outer skin from the friction. My guess is the fluid is produced to protect the eldow from this action... I'll try and change the way I work and see if goes down on its own.

Thanks ...I have a similar condition on my left elbow but know the cause...I have been fighting gouty foot for several weeks. I finally found out allpurinol prevents my gout flare ups, but the last flare up caused fluid in my elbow bursa and I haven't been able to get rid of the fluid. Thankfully it isn't causing pain, just ugly swelling...

So, allpurinol + gout = unrelated elbow swelling. Hmmm... sounds like there needs to be one of those commercials on TV about this medication with the "may cause other symptoms... consult your doctor".

  • I noticed for about 5 days my entire arm was swollen then it subsided considerably, but now I notice my elbow area is flabby like it has fatty and when I put my elbow on the desk at work I cannot feel the elbow bone and feels like there is fluid in by elbow area and there still the some swelling in my arm about 60% decrease in swelling. Elbow is not painful and can still carry my backpack with that hand without any discomfort and there is no redness around the elbow. I just had 2 sebaceus cysts removed on my back within the last 30 days and had surgery and everything is healing fine. I do not golf or play tennis. I'm puzzled. Thoughts? I am 68 and healthy and still working, but don't exercise too much. My occupation is a computer consultant and at my desk about 75% of the workday.
