hi guys, i am so relieved to find this forum.
I recently noticed a strange growth on my right tonsil. it looks like two "tentacles" or tendrils growing out of my tonsil. I am so scared and freaking out about it being cancer. I have no trouble swallowing and there is no pain in my neck nor am i experiencing ear pain or any other symptom that wikipedia and my textbooks have for tonsil cancer. In my youth it was noticed that my tonsils were a bit enlarged and my doctor said it wasnt anything to be worried of and my dentist (my mother) never was alarmed. When i was little i did notice that there was some "extra meat" on my right tonsil and now that i check back it looks like its grown...alot! all my google searches and textbook pictures say it doesnt look like a tumor but rather a polyp but i dont know. and yes, as a college student it's always assume i would do drugs and drink but i dont. I cant count on both hands the number of times i've smoked and drank total.
i am actually scared of going to the doctor because ive had so bad hospital experience and most of all hearing that it could be cancer will hit me really hard. and i have a grave fear of surgery. i will work the courage to go but first i need some piece of mind first. i dont know how to describe it but i just need to hear from another source to let my off gently at first then going to the doc's wont be as bad. the big irony is that im a biochem major studying to be a doctor in the oncology field. someone please help me identify what this is?
