Viral Infection or Bruised Eardrum?

So i went to the emergency room just to have my ear checked out by a doctor. Nothing too severe but just my hearing in my left ear seemed to be a bit off off compared to my right ear, and i was feeling some dull aching, and sensitivity to loud sounds. No ringing or feeling that sound is being muffled. For example my right ear is hearing everything @ 100% and my left @ like 80%
The doctors looked in left ear with the Otoscope and saw some fluids with a slightly swollen membrane tube. They (2 doctors) asked if i was sick and i just said nothing but a runny nose here and there. So they just said it could be related to a viral infection i could be having. They checked if my lymph nodes were sore or anything and they are a bit.
Told me to take some decongestants advil etc fora couple days. If it gets worse or doesnt seem to be gettin better i go see my GP.
Would they have been able to see my eardrum looking in there? and tell if was bruised or anything was wrong with it. I forgot to ask them.
They already asked me a bunch of questions like if i hear ringing, having any pain, discharge from ear, and i dont have any of those.
Appreciate any help/opinions

I also forgot to mention couple days ago i had a painful aching feeling in my left ear or by it. I went to my GP and she said it was TMJ, i was having troble chewing food etc cause it hurt. Couple days later it went away.
Could this be related?
