For about 6 weeks the glands on the right side (sometimes both sides) of my neck have been swollen. They are not swollen all of the time. They usually become swollen at about lunchtime and remain swollen until the evening. They do not hurt but I guess could be described as slightly tender. Sometimes my throat feels a little tight as well although this doesn't persist either. I have no other symptoms.
This all started after I'd shaken of the worst of bad cold picked up in Australia although I'm not sure the two are related. Prior to that cold I had a sore throat/tongue which I think was due to a lot of excess stomach acid that I had during that period.
I also sometimes feel like I have a scratch in my throat or similar as sometimes when I inhale I can kind of feel the air running across what feels like a slightly raw patch or something like that (difficult to describe). I have noticed this on and off for over 6 months and now wonder whether the two (scratch in throat and swollen glands) are related. For some reason it feels like they are.
I have seen the doctor once and they told me to wait a few weeks (although I didn't mention the 6 month throat symptoms). I've done that and the symptoms have got slightly better (I think) but not gone away.
I have been under a lot of stress recently and that is not helped by worrying about this.
Should I be worried, should I wait a bit longer or should I not be too worried if I have no other symptoms?
I am late 30's and a smoker (although now trying to give up) which probably adds to my concerns.
Looking at the internet has not really helped so far as many sites seem to suggest something very serious!
