Throat Closing Suddenly Please Help!

My boyfriend has a problem that has happened only a few times in the past few years. However it is very frightening when it does happen.

Sometimes when he tries to eat or drink something it will hit his throat funny and it makes his throat close up where he has difficulty breathing for about two minutes< he can get a tiny bit of air but very little>. He has to fight to breathe and it feels like he is breathing through a straw.

We are sure it is not an allergy because it happens very little with different types of stuff that doesn't normally cause this.

Please help if you can.

Thank you in advance
