Thick saliva after I eat

After I eat I always get a thick build-up of saliva in my throat. Sometimes it gives me a gagging feeling because of the texture and the fact that it taste like what I just ate. I have no idea what's causing this, so if you know what it is or if this sounds familiar, please let me know.
