I can’t seem to get a diagnosis. I have a sore throat, swollen glands, cold symptoms, my tonsils are enlarged and sore as well. I have difficulty swallowing. It feels like I have a lump in my throat. I feel like I have a fever but I don’t. Headache, dry mouth, fatigued and body aches. I was tested for strep, negative. Given Zpak. Still ill. This is affecting everything. I've had the sore throat for about 3 weeks now. The cold, body aches, swollen tonsils and headache only started about a week ago so I don’t know if it’s unrelated or if it is more symptoms. I don’t know if it’s relevant but I quit smoking about a month ago. Initially I thought that's what this was, but it seems extreme to be a form of nicotine withdrawal. Especially since I have not had a cough or had any mucous coming up. I’m confused, scared it might be cancer or something that’s life threatening.

Have any of your symptoms changed since this initial post? Best wishesDOM

  • I was miserable for 3 days with the same thing. I ran a low grade fever 100.6 with mine. Was given a z pack. Went back to the doc as I felt SO bad and my throat was getting worse. Flu and strep tests negative. Doc said sometimes z packs dont work. For some reason some people dont respond to azithromyacin. Apparently I am one of those people. He gave me an injection of 1gm Rocephin and 3 hrs later I was on the mend. Starting coughin up and spitting out gross stuff but I could swallow!! That was yesterday. Feel MUCH better today. No more aches, no more fever, feel 100% better. The doc followed up with a prescription of 7 days of Levaquin. Maybe the z pack was your issue too. My doc said from now on, always tell a physician not to give it to me because it doesn't work on me.Hope this helps!

  • I dealt with this for almost six months until someone actually suggested it was allergies. I had every symptom of strep, etc....once I started taking allergy meds, it took a few weeks, but finally went away. Just an fyi...it was horrible...but I had never had allergies before so I never expected that!
