sick of being sick

I am hoping someone here can help, or at the least, to be able to vent a little.

I have been sick since October, it started with a sharp pain on my ear which quickly turned into a sore throat. I have a baby at home and didn't want to risk getting her sick so I went to the dr the second I felt my throat hurting. I was tested for strep and the flu, both negative. I was told that my ears looked fine but that my throat looked irritated so I was prescribed Levaquin to take for 7 days. After 7 days of taking it and not having any results I went back to the dr. I was tested again for strep and the flu, again negative for both. This time I saw a different doctor and he said -again- that my ears looked fine and that he thought it might be a sinus problem so he went ahead and prescribed Avelox to take for 10 days. Again, nothing. I decided to suck it up and give it a few days to see if maybe the problem would just fix itself but the days turned into weeks and still nothing. I made an appointment in early December with an ENT, who, upon seeing me, said I had 70% blockage on my left ear ("from cleaning it too much") and prescribed me Ciprodex. The Ciprodex helped with my ears AND my throat and for a couple of weeks I felt so much better. After those 2 weeks however, the pain started again, little by little. I went back to see the ENT who told me that my ear looked fine and he believed I might just have allergies. I knew that didn't seem right but I figured as long as my ear looked fine, maybe it was in my head. The pain has not gotten any better, however, and I have continued to add the drops whenever the pain starts to get bad, but I have noticed that the drops only work for a bit and then the pain returns. Not to mention, the pain this time felt different and is stronger. My neck and head have started to hurt and the pain in my ear has consistently increased. If I tilt my head to the right, I get a sharp pain on my left ear and the left side of my face (throat, face, head) starts to hurt. I went back to the dr (general practitioner) 2 days ago and he said my ears looked irritated and he prescribed Moxatag and more Ciprodex drops. I've been taking the antibiotics but this morning I noticed the left side of my face hurts when I barely touch it.

*sigh* I feel like this is never going to end. What is wrong with me?! I know it's something with my ears but I'm so tired of getting told one thing and then another and then another and all along the pain has been getting worse. I can't help but think the worse....what if it's a tumor? what if the infection has spread? I try not to think like that, I like to think of myself as level-headed but it's hard to do that when I have been sick for 4 months now and nothing has been able to cure me. I don't know what to do anymore...

  • Have you thought of seeing a chiropractor? Your symtoms may be realated to pressure or pinching on a cranial/facial nerve. It's definitely worth looking into if you still haven't gotten any relief from Western medicine...
