Red bump in my inner upper lip. Please help!

Hey all,

I am in some desperate need for help. This problem has been leaving me sleepless for quite some time now. I may go mad if I don't find out what it is. So please, help me.

About 4 weeks ago, i woke up one morning with a stinging sensation in my upper lip (towards the right side, just above my right canine). Checking in the mirror revealed a red blister, about 3-4 mm in diameter and very spherical. I popped it with a needle. In a day, it turned into an Ulcer, which healed in 4-5 days.

Now here's where the problem started. After healing, the skin didn't return to normal. Instead, it remained reddish and slightly raised. (not a sudden lump, but a gradual, smooth bump).

Close inspection revealed that the skin texture is normal and seems like there are an increased number of capillaries on the bump. If I press it down, it looks normal, just like any other part of the mouth. When i release the hand, the reddishness returns.

twice since then, i popped the bump with a needle. Both times, a little blood and i guess some clear fluid came out, and the bump appeared to look normal. But, in 3-4 days, it starts getting reddish again. It doesn't return to the previous (very red, bulging, painful blister) state, but it remains reddish (sorta like 30% redder than the surrounding areas). It has been remaining this way for a few days now. It has also remained painless since the initial blister and the ulcer after i popped it.

I haven't slept properly in days. Every few minutes, i find myself looking at it in the mirror. The more i look at it, the more crazy i get.

Please, if somebody here can help me, do so. I will in your debt forever.

  • i know its been a year since this happened, but still i couldn't help posting a reply. healing tissue always has more capillaries since it needs the increased blood flow in order to help it heal, if it blanches ' loses redness' on pressure that is completely normal so you shouldn worry about that, you should only be concerned if it grows in size, gets hard or ulcerated. And please dont poke it with a needle, it will just cause more problems like ulceraion, infection etc.take care!
