Recurring sore throat

I seem to get a sore throat about every 4-5 weeks..to the point that I have started circling days on my calendar to keep track. I mentioned to my dr six months ago and he said he thought it was allergy related. For a few months, I could probably agree with that due to pollen but I would also have the itchy, watery eyes at the same time. Most times it is my throat and nothing else. I was in to see him last week and probably should have mentioned that it was still going on. Today, I've had a bit of a "wet" cough with it. Right now it hurts to eat/drink anything except ice cream & popsicles. I love my dr but I hate going to see him if I don't know what to expect if that makes sense. OTC stuff helps for a little bit but it always comes back within a few hours. Advice...suggestions?
