Pain and "Popping" in Front of Neck... Need Diagnosis!

Im 21 years old and I have been having this weird "popping sensation" for at least 4 or so years. Otherwise Im very healthy so any kind of direction or test I should get would be greatly appreciated!!

On the left side of my neck about an inch under my jaw I get a strange, random popping feeling like something is coming out of place. The pain last for a couple of seconds and then it goes back to normal. It ranges in intensity but it is normally around a 6-10. It normally happens when I am turning my head, most likely to the left but it happens when I move my head up and down to and when Im talking. I get the pain maybe 3 or 4 times a week and it really hurts!

I could live with the pain but what is really concerning is on 2 different occasions I have fainted. The first time I was passed out was 1.5 years ago and I started getting warm and blacking out and then I passed out. When I was unconscious I felt like I was in a really deep sleep. When I woke up I felt really comfortable and that nothing was wrong. People around me said I was snoring and making funny noises but I didnt lose control of my bladder. About a year later the exact same thing happened with the same symptoms but I was able to tell I was about to faint. Both times the pain was pretty extreme.

As for doctors and tests Ive seen PLENTY! So let me know if Im missing anything

ENT: ordered CT scan with contrast after 1st fainting incident. Normal except I had a swollen lymph node on left side

Dentist: Same time as CT scan found that I had an infection on the left side probably due to wisdom teeth removed and the cause of the swollen lymph node.

I do have TMJ.. could that be the cause??

Family Doctor: PAC found during physical

Cardiologist: Ordered ultrasound of heart and carotid artery both normal

Neurologist: I seem perfectly fine. Doesn't think it is seizures

The only other relevant information I think is that every since I was little I have always had a problem with violently throwing up. Whenever I was sick I would spend all day gagging in the toilet and I still throw up very easily and harshly. Could I have stretch out some ligaments or muscles?

  • I have the same thing! I have almost all of the symptoms you have mentioned, however I sometimes literally cannot swallow afterwards. Have you experienced this?
