Hi everyone,
Just wanted to drop by and ask a few questions. I recently got back from a vacation and upon my return and a sinus infection i felt a fullness in my left ear. I went to the doctor and they gave me a nasal spray and recommended mucinex to help drain the ear. At the back of my throat on the left side i sometimes get a swallowing pain and i feel the pressure from the ear down. Doctors prescribed Antibiotics and have told me to see an ENT. The soonest i can see one is March 10th. I am somewhat worried because the symptoms have not changed.

Symptoms:
Post Nasal Drip
Noises when yawning, rubbing eye (poping noises probably pressure changes)
sore throat at times right where Eustachian tubes come out (in that area)
Fullness in ears (pressure doctor says fluid is visible in ear)

I was wondering what is in the upper back part of your mouth and behind your ear just below the ear itself. I have no other symptoms but definately a drastic difference between left and right side. I also have noise sounds when yawning and rubbing my eye. Should i be worried because my Doctor said this may be some kind of growth or etc by the Eustachian tubes.Kind of set me in panic mode. I am pretty healthy 38 year old man who smoked years ago. Do i need to find a ENT sooner? Has anyone had similar symptoms and what was the diagnosis.

  • Where did you go on vacation and did you fly? What antibiotic were you prescribed? How much Mucinex are you taking? DOMWent to Delray Beach FL and i did not fly. I was first prescribed a 5 day Zpac for the sinus infection and went back and was Told to take 1 claritin once a day, 1 muscinex every 12 hours and i believe it was NasaCort AQ. Did that for 7 to 10 days and still stuffed ear and a bit of pain when i swallow on the left side by my Eustachian tubes.I have now stopped taking all the products after seeing another doctor who prescribe me a sulfamethoxa 800 2 times a day thinking i may have an infection in the tube itself but i have been taking the antibiotic for 3 days now and no improvement that i can tell. I do also feel post nasal drip but i have had that for my whole life.I am calling the ENT everyday to see if there are cancelations because waiting more then a month might be bad if it is something bad

Keep in mind that sinus infections are often fungal in nature, and antibiotics won't help and may make things worse. Also, Sulfamethoxazole has some nasty side effects that include possible pseudomembranous colitis, joint pain, hallucinations, and more. If you experience any weird symptoms while taking this drug visit www.drugs.com and look up the side effects info. Please get yourself a good quality probiotic - with acidophilus, bifidus bacterium, l. rhamnosus, lactobacillus, and more. This will help counter the use of antibiotics and protect you from getting any secondary bacterial or fungal infections. You can find a probiotic at any good healthfood store or online at www.vitacost.com. Take the probiotic at least 2 hours after your antibiotic. Take this for longer term as it will help your immune system. If you have nasal congestion or sinus pain I recommend a neti pot or Dr. NeilMed's sinusrinse to help rinse out your nasal passages. This takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it it really helps. Also, I would recommend continuing with the mucinex, making sure it is plain mucinex and the highest dose - 1200mg twice daily. Don't take decongestants for sinus issues as they are often too drying. Consider trying garlic oil in your ear. Mullein is helpful as well. There is a product called Wally's Ear oil that is good for this problem - I'd follow with a warm/hot compress. Oregano Oil capsules are antifungal, as well as antibacterial. Goldenseal may help as well. The above suggestions have worked very well for me. Hope you give some of them a try. Best wishesDOM

  • Hi, i have been reading alot of these post and i too for the last 2 months have felt either light headed or off balance a bit, its kinda like when you go to a movie and you walk out of the movie theater after watching a long movie on the big screen, It does not go away, i went to the hospital a few times for it, i have been know to have anxity but this seems to be alot different, after reading i will be going to the doctor, and have the doctor test my thyroid level, also i have a wisdom tooth that has been gone for awhile but never had the root pulled out. I think my symtoms could be related to either my tooth, or a thyroid problem, I too worrie about a brain tumor or something along that line. I do get alot of infections in my head, and am now sick atm with a head cold, but i have had this problem before when i went to the hospital, and nothing was found, thats why i know its not linked to any infect in my head. They checked my ears and took some blood, thats about it for both times. I hope maybe some of you read this and have those 2 things checked out if you have not yet, So i recomend going to the dentist and having your thyroid gland checked out and that is done by a full blood check. I too am getting sick of ppl saying its my anxity that runs in my family. I do smoke cigs and drink pop it could be related to my diet now that i am 32 years old, i am not to over wieght altho it wouldnt hert if i lost 30 ponds. Back to the cigs i started getting this feeling ever since they added that FSC fire crap to the cigs, I have not tried to stop smoking yet but maybe after i get some insurance so i can go to the doctor if they dont find anything agian i may quit the pop and cigs. Who knows it may have been cuase from looking at the computer screen so much lol. And as you can see i am very bad at spelling but you get what i am saying :) gl all glad to know there are more out there in some way.
