itchy ears

For soooo long my ears have itched. It feels like they need to be cleaned, even when they are already. I have tried hydogen peroxide, that only helps for a little while. I have also tried at home ear wax removal kits. I do get wax buildup fast and I clean them everyday, but it looks, to me like I never do. Is it a genetic thing, cause my mom has that to. If so, what could it be? Or is it that I have a "dirty" ear farther down, where I can't reach it with a q-tip, and need to go have it professionally cleaned. Let me know, thanks.

  • You might have some psoriasis or exzema. DH has a problem like that and uses cortisone cream only as needed and it works beautifully.

  • finally!!!! My bf of 8 years has the same thing! I thought he just reallly liked the feeling of cleaning his ears at first, because it soothes the itchiness. He does has eczema other places, and recently, I found it in there, too. I know that his only shows up in other areas once in a few years, so, you may not notice it either. we both were looking everywhere! Lol, for like ear cleaning fetishes and everything! No info out there really. If it was farther down, then those liquid ear cleaning kits would get to it. But, the excessive q-tips and peroxide will feel like they help for a bit, but actually make it worse in the long run, because they dry out your skin.

  • i had the same problem. then i read that the ear canal cleans itself with a waxy secretion called cerumen. When this is continually removed with overzealous cleaning, it can cause problems. Poking the q-tip too far into the ear canal removes the cerumen, and can push the wax further into the canal. a q-tip is only meant to clean the outer portion of the ear canal. try not putting it deep in your ear for a while and see if this helps. i haven't had itchy ears since.
