Hello all , sometimes after i have a shower, yawn , burp or when i wake up in the morning, i get this unusual thumping in my left ear, ive been to the DR about it and he doesnt really seem to think its anthing serious and i doubt it is, but its just so damned anoying and my Dr cant really think of what it may be. So i was wondering if anyone here might know what it could be?..

  • Are you talking about a sound similar to something decompressing? Like blowing in a paper bag? If so, I have a similar condition. I feel it in varying degrees whenever I hear a loud, percussive noise, or if I'm talking on the phone. The strange thing is, it actually feels more severe when I hold the phone up to my LEFT ear. I can also feel it after I rub my eyes. It's not painful at all, but my doctor said that it would go away after I got this ear infection treated, and it hasn't. If I put in earplugs, however, the sound goes away.I also occasionally experience this really low hum in that same ear, which is usually imperceptible, unless there's near-silence around. If anyone knows what this might be, please respond

It can be worsened by some over the counter pain relievers like Motrin or Aleve. It can also be caused due to a buildup of ear wax. My personal belief, having lived with condition for many years, on and off, is that in my case it seems to be allergy related.

  • This happens to me too, occasionally, when I hear a sound that I don't like such as something irritating. I just ignore it, but when someone is talking that I don't want to hear, one of my ears will start thumping...
