Ear Lobe Swelling

I have a tendency to worry too much about things when it is unnecessary, so I thought I'd get advice from someone who might know before I freak myself out for no reason. Wednesday I had karate and hurt my ear getting out of a side choke hold. It's now Sunday and my earlobe is still swollen (it's not huge but it's noticeable to people other then me... it's not getting worse but not getting particularly better either). And sort of red. It's bruised along the bottom and the side right where it connects to my head. Anyway, how long should it take for the swelling to go down? Is this something I should worry about? I probably wouldn't even care if it was my ankle or something but I've never really hurt an ear before.

  • Sounds like you ruptured a lymph node behind the ear (post-auricular). Trauma can fracture the lymph node and bleeding occurs, pooling under the skin of the ear (bruising). Applying heat will help move the blood from the area quicker. Don't pick at it, you will only make things worse. It does not sound like an infection/boil/abscess.
