Ear infection question

I just recently experienced what my doctor termed as "the worst ear infection she's seen". They tried placing me on erithromyocin, but after a short stay at the ER for vomiting and dehydration they changed my meds to amoxicillan and ear drops. I am 30 and there were no clues that an ear infection was even coming on, it was very sudden and severe. The pain is now gone but I'm left with significant vertigo, tinnitus and very little hearing in the infected ear. Have any of you experienced these side effects? How long did it take for recovery? I've missed a week of work as is and will now have to go back despite the fact I an only hear out of one ear and still feel very dizzy.

I've just come to this site for a similar problem but see very few responses to posters with ear infections. I'm just a year older than yourself, and apart from one ear infection as a child, that's all. I had a pretty bad cold for most of December and then in January I got what my doctor described as a cold, two days later she said it was the flu, and a couple of days later (2 weeks today) I had a strange feeling of pressure in my ear, went to chemist (it was a Saturday evening) and luckily my doctor was on call so they sent me to her. She said it was an ear infection. The following night, with fever and feeling awful I went to bed early and was awoken 2 hours later with an excruciating pain in my ear and discharge. Have seen two docs and an ENT specialist. Discharge thankfully stopped after 5 days (1 days after ENT specialist drained ear). But still have severe loss of hearing and tinititus (which strangely I'd been noticing the past 6 months or so...). Have been on one course of antibiotics (oral and ear drops), and now about to finish second course of antibiotics (amoxcilin). Doesn't seem to be working, may go to doc again on Monday. And I have to take a plane in 3 weeks which is worrying me.
