Hi all, here is my problem.

2 sundays ago i woke up with a sudden severe sore throat and coughed up bloody mucus throughout the day. And at night ended up with a headache and fever.
I looked at my throat that day and it was red with what looked like deep red scratches/streaks everywhere which would probably explain the bloody mucus.

I went to the Doctor the following monday and the doctor checked me for Strep throat and the Flu. He told me i had neither and just said that he would put me on antibiotics since its going to be a Viral or Bacterial infection.
He gave me a shot and i took 500mg Azithromycin for 3 days. I felt much better except for a mild sore throat which seemed to be going away and thought that was the end of that.

well On saturday (6 days later) i woke up with what i thought was another Severe sore throat but after feeling around i noticed the pain is just at the front of my throat. It is right around where the chin/neck meet, it hurts to swallow saliva but not food. It feels like it is pretty swollen when i tilt my head down. I still have some mucus i spit out, and sometimes there is a tiny splotch of blood. My ears also feel like they are a little bit out of, well pressure? where it feels like they need to be popped or unpopped a little.

It has been 4 days and i still have this pain/swelling there. I have no other symptoms like fatigue, fever, loss of appetite. Is this anything to worry about? i would appreciate your guys thoughts/knowledge since i would like to avoid going to the doctor again.

  • I was looking up the exact same symptoms just now and came accross ur posting! Everything you've described has been the same for me for the past 4 days. My doctor did not diagnose me either! I'm on antibiotics for my throat and some pain killers for my headaches/migraines/ or whatever this feeling is in my head. If you find anything out, please reply! Thanks

  • yes.. the problem with me is also a little similar. I wake up in the morning with sever throat pain. i clean the mucous out from the throat in the morning and the rest of the day passes relatively easily. However it happens again when i wake up the next day.

  • Any time you have blood, you have to see a dr because it could be serious -- or it can be inflammation somewhere and something minor and easily treated. Knowing for sure is best. See another dr - these doctors blow everything off - it's ridiculous. See an ENT:rolleyes: and a gastroenterologist - the gastro can set up an endoscopy appt to get a better look into your throat, esophagus and stomach. The ENT can put a scope into the throat. It may be something like GERD that got out of control and is irritating your throat, to the point of making it bleed or a problem with the sinuses.
