difficult to swallow sometimes

I am a 36 year old male. I have had these symptoms for 4 years: almost every day i have a sensation that something is in my throat. I suddenly feel like i can't swallow and my mouth feels dry. I start freaking out and it feels hard to breathe. For the past 2 months, my tongue and opening of my throat feel tired and weak and my jaw feels numb at times. I have had a barium swallow and scope for my esophagus about 2 years ago--both tests had negative results.

I have been diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. My doctor told me that my symptoms indicate stress and anxiety, because he prescribed me 1.5mg per day of ativan, which stopped the symptoms. When i stopped taking the ativan the symptoms started again.

I have taken anti-spasm drugs such as bentyl and others, but they don't seem to help.

I hope i can figure out what this is.
