possible bowel obstruction?

i went to the ER on Sunday night with extreme pain, belly distention, intermittent cramping (it was coming in waves, almost like contractions). i could hardly walk or talk, the pain was so bad.

i left the ER with the doctor saying i may have had a possible bowel obsruction, and to follow up with my family doctor.

my family doctor called me back yesterday, after reviewing my x-rays, and said to go back to the ER, that i may have a bowel obstruction in my distal bowel.

i hate to go the ER because although i still have pain in my belly, it is not as severe as it was on sunday, and i have been having fairly regular BM's, which makes me think it is not an obstruction.

i had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago, and am thinking that i may have adhesions build up already, and they may be causing me some problems.

can anyone who has ever had a bowel obstruction tell me if they had the severe symptoms the whole time, or if they settled down for awhile?

i feel like i'm running to the ER alot, and do not want to be a nuisance.

thanks alot.

  • How is your stool? Is it diarrhea-like? If it is, then it could be running around the obstruction. If you are having solid stool it is unlikely that you have an obstruction.
