Deep pains in chest after too much sodium

Okay, forgive me if this is the wrong area to post this, but I didn't know where else. This is the second time this has occurred, the first it happened.. was when I ate some velveta mac n cheese that my friend dumped A LOT of steak/french fry seasoning on. I got deep (deep as in it felt like the pain was coming from behind and under my heart) pains in my chest 2 - 3 hours after eating it... and the pain was a dull but strong aching pain that wasn't throbbing, it was solid and persistent. It was so bad I had laid on my bed curled in a feeble position for an hour or two while trying not to groan until the pain subsided. It was the most uncomfortable and unsettling pain I had ever felt. I had assumed it was because I had consumed such a large amount of salt that night.. and vowed to never do it again. I'm 18, a swimmer, and to most standers quite healthy (if that helps any) but this morning my girlfriend made me a ridiculous breakfast (it was delicious at that) of egg, beans, gravy, toast, hash browns, hot sauce, cheese, and bacon all piled together on a plate. I usually tend to eat a lot, and finishing this plate was no problem for me. But that was 5 hours ago.. and the same pain I felt before is back (at about half the intensity). So I've come to assume that when I ingest too much sodium... this happens to me. Is there anyway I can prevent the effects? Besides obviously cutting back on the sodium (which I normally try to do, but sometimes I slip). But just one meal of excess sodium shouldn't cause me this much pain and discomfort.. right? Is there anything I can do to sooth the pain? Because Aleve and Tylenol does nothing for it.. it usually puts my other pains (body pains) out of commission but for this pain it does nothing. If anyone has any input on this please feel free.. thanks for reading if you did. And if you need any more information please let me know.. I doubt I will get a response before the pain subsides tonight, but I want to know what I can do the next time.

  • I had that same incredibly horrible pain & went to the hospital twice (2 years apart). I had/have a healthy heart - so it wasn't that ... then when it happened three times in one week, I went to the doctors and in the end, it was my addiction to salty pretzels. If I can tell my story enough times and it helps at least a single person avoid this incredible pain - then it is worth it.

  • Had the same feeling yesterday. I went to a BBQ and spiced my burgers with a very salty mix. I made 3 burgers, thinking someone would take one of mine, but ended up eating them all. The last one was more than twice as salty as the 2 first, and since it was my only meal of the day, let alone Doritos just before, I ended up finishing it even if it felt way too much salty to be good. Half an hour later, I had the same pain as you, below the heart, like a bar from left to right, increasing when I breathe or push my belly. Felt bad for a few hours.
