Bowel obstruction surgery

Has anyone here got long term relief from surgery for bowel obstructions caused by adhesions? My husband is in hospital for the third time this year for a partial bowel obstruction caused by adhesions from a previous abdominal surgery. It looks like the only solution might be surgery to clean up the adhesions but everything I am reading leads me to believe that this may only make matters worse long term. Please reply if you have any experience with this.
