Can a long history of alcoholism (12 years) have caused diabetes? My best frined has also been diagnosed with high blood pressure, and hepatitis. Most literature confirms that these abuses can cause the pancreas to lose its ability to prcess? Any information on this?

  • I have suspected my diabetes which was diagnosed when I was 30 may have began early because I was a heavy weekend drinker from age 16 to 27 and have a family history of diabetes II.In the long run though, once you have the disease does it help to know why it started? Maybe if you have children and can discuss with them not to follow the same drinking path...

  • i believe i got Diabetes2 from been a heavy drinker and heavy work stress for 10 years (35yrs-45yrs) i have now stopped and smell the roses everyday.i did not find out i had diabetes until i was 45yrs. i rarley drink now and find i now get drunk on about 3-4 beers and get pains top right handside back area think it is pancreas inflamed if i do drink. doctors/tests no answers,( take Tramadol which also keeps me mellow and clears my mind and gives you the best night sleep. ( you need to beg doctor in Aust. to get 20 tablets yet in Thailand on supermarket shelf) i am not over weight which anoys me with so many diabetes sites that seem to presume all diabetics are all big over weight people.I went to some diabetic classes and they kept on about loosing weight too. I went days when i drank without eating so part of my get well plan now is eat and eat more of good healthy food. I sold my business and taking time off just to get my health back on track as i was prime candiate for heart attack by 50 the way i was going. Ben
