I've been diabetic for about 2 and a half years now and we still cannot get me on a a good medication. We started with Metformin, which work ok, but I had the worst side effects from it. Tried it in small doses, spacing it out, time release but still had side effects I could not tolerate.
Next was Byetta. I was tolerating it ok, but hated doing the injections. It also was not bringing my sugars down very much.
On to Duetact. Worked ok, but made me gain 25 lbs in 1 month! Already being overweight, that was just going to make things worse so I had to stop that medication.
Now I am on Glimeperide which is not causing any side effects, but it is also not working very well. My blood sugars are still in the high 200's to low 300's.
I have been really careful with my diet and have been seeing a diabetic nutritionist so I'm really frustrated that my sugars are still high.
I REALLY don't want to have to take insulin. And if possible do not want another injectable medication so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone has any other suggestions for me.
Anything in particular that worked well for you without causing too many side effects? I was reading about Victoza, but it's fairly new and it's also an injectable med. I just want to get my sugars under control! Sick of being thirsty, peeing all the time and having the blurred vision!
