Dry socket nightmare - Others?

Can someone call God and tell him I would like to trade a limb for this dry socket thing?

I'm 10 days into this thing. In order to keep my whits about me so I can actually work I have found that a mix of 1000mg of IB and 2 EXTRA strength Tylenol every 5 hours keeps the pain at bay without turning me into a drooling idiot. I'm still sort of in a fog and if I miss or take it late the pain will stop me in my tracks.

Three days ago my dentist inserted some kind of cellulose thing to help with the clotting, he said in a few days I would turn a corner. No such luck, today was a bad day, stopped half way through the day and spent the rest on the recliner. Mornings are murder, at 5am or so the pain wakes me up so I down half a protein bar and down goes the pain cocktail.

I can't explain how debilitating this thing is, Monday I'm back at the dentists, I hope hes got a new plan. 60 minute count down till the next set of pills.

Any other Dry Socket stories out there?

  • Oh yes! Worst pain ever. I ended up on high dose of antibiotic and percocet for the pain cus nothing else worked. I know mine was caused by smoking and swear I will never smoke again after extraction lol

  • Yesterday I went in to have something done about the dry socket. They gave me a local and scraped the socket area to try and correct the clotting. Then sutchered the whole thing. Still have some pain but I have to say it is different from what I have been dealing with. I'm optimistic about this latetest "fix" I hope I turn a corner by this weekend. Stil on 4-6 hour diet of IB and XS Tylenol. I actaully feel like I could get some work done today though. ~BO
