I am a 47 year old female who has suffered from severe constipation since I was 14. I was diagnosed with a megacolon in 1977 and had one surgery which did not help the constipation. I then moved to another state and have been to numerous docors since then all of which have told me to add more fiber, eat more fruit & so on & so on. I have been on every type of medication out there for constipation and nothing helped. I have had tests for foods that I'm allergic to and cut them out, I have done everything! I recently went for a colonoscopy which revealed popyps & diverticilitus(sp???) I then went on to have tests which revealed possible hirschsprungs. My problem??? I need a good surgeon who specializes in adult onset hirschsprungs in and around WV, VA, NC ,PA or OH. Has anyone had the surgery for hirschsprungs and what was the outcome? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I too suffered for so many years, told by specialists to take more fiber, more laxatives, more exercise etc. It was very frustrating since those suggestions make the problem worse. In addition, undiagnosed Hirschsprungs has a high mortality rate. The VA is looking for a surgeon for me. Try this, Julie Muskett, jalbert3@jhmi.edu She gave me information on adult Hirschsprungs and the tests needed. University of Michigan also had alot of research information and surgery department. Also Cincinnati Childrens Hospital does the surgery for children w hirschsprungs maybe they can refer to someone who does adult surgery? Good luck.

  • I know you said you tried numerous medications, etc., but you should really try this excellent colon cleanser called Almighty Cleanse. It's worth a try. You take these capsules for only 7 days & you're good for the next 3mos. It's recommended you only need to take this product only 4 times a year. You buy from this site.
