chronic constipation, gas, and abdominal pain

So I'm trying to help my boyfriend. He's really embarrassed about this issue and it's been such a problem trying to convince him to see a doctor about it.
He suffers from chronic constipation, gas, and stomach cramping/abdominal pain. He will go to the bathroom usually twice a day (recently it's gone up to four or five times) for 20 minutes. Typically nothing happens or he just releases gas. He says it feels like huge pockets of air are in his intestines.
I've switched his diet, he's taken pepto, gas-x, beano, tums, and he is still miserable... He does say he's had this problem for years but with it getting worse, it really makes me nervous and until I can convince him to get professional help, I thought I could do my research online.
Based on his symptoms, it could be IBS, SIBO, or a number of other intestinal issues. If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, I would really appreciate it.
