ok my 4yr old has constant bleeding when she has a BM i brought her to the hospital twice (1st time the Dr did nothing) 2nd time it was determinded that all her intestines were completely full, she was given an enima and oral medication to losen up her stool. (she has a regular bowel movment everyday) this seemed to clear up the problem. now 1 week later her stool is hard again. she is always complaining of stomach aches and feeling like she is going to get sick. (I am seeking medical advice, I have to wait untill we go back to Sick Kids, she is on naporxen and has JRA) the Dr at the hospital has told me there is no relation, so i am at a loss if anyone can help me with anytype of info i would really appreciate it. thank you

  • Have your doctor check her for addisons disease. Primary patients get constipated while secondary have severe diarrhea. Just a simple afternoon cortisol drawl or early morning will detect it. Good luck. Did they check for diabetes, or potassium level??? If potassium gets high it'll cause constipation.

  • hi. thank you i am going to request that she be tested for these things. our family doctor suggests it is just diet related, however i don't believe that. she eats a good variety of food.. thank you so much this gives me something to go on.

  • hi I have had similiar to your symptoms...i get diarrahea intermittently a lot with lower left sided abdominal pain. i have had this for about 5 years now. i used to pass mucus but over time i am now passing blood along with the mucus and whether or not the stools are loose there is always the presence of blood. I have lost a lot of weight when an attack comes on and feel really drained. After a rectal exam with my doctor who said there was a lot of blood, i was sent for my second colonoscopy. I have had 2 colonoscopy (one recent) they took biopsies but said otherwise it was normal and they did not find anything wrong. It is very frustrating as it is ongoing and ive tried eliminating things from my diet, eating more fibre, reducing alcohol etc and nothing has worked.

  • Hi,I had the exact same symptoms as Caroline2007 about 5 years ago. Initial biopsies didn't show anything. I eventually was referred to a leading gastrointestinal surgeon who did a biopsy and found minute inflammation in the large intestine (crohn's disease). He put me on mesalazine to reduce the inflammation and I've been symptom free ever since. He said that for some people, the inflammation doesn't have to be severe to have a detrimental effect. He also told me that the colonoscopy only checks the large intestine. If you have problems in your small intestine, this won't be detected.Anyone who is passing blood when they have a BM should keep persisting with doctors until they find out what's going on.
