Is it wise to do a liver cleanse if one suspects he may have cirrhosis?

  • Is it wise to do a liver cleanse if one suspects he may have cirrhosis? There is no quick fix for an unhappy liver... You must limit toxic exposures and feed your liver what it needs to be healthy and it will cleanse itself! The Life Extension Foundation has the best database of supplements for treating a sick liver. Check them out at lef.org and use the search function for cirrhosis. Two supplements... One called "SAMe" (available almost everywhere) and another called "PPC" or Polyenylphosphatidylcholine (brand names PhosChol and HepatoPro) are the dynamic duo of liver support supplements. If you can't find the PPC, Simple Lecithin will help, but you must take at least 3/day, and it would take several more (6 to 9 per day) to equal the Phosphatidylcholine in just a couple of the PPC pills. Again, nothing will help you overnight, or even over a month or so, but your liver will fix itself if you eliminate the toxins that are hurting it, and feed it the nutrients it needs. Good Luck and GodSpeed.

  • Thanks, Synesthesia, for your reply. I have been taking Milk Thistle for several years and just starting taking Liv 52. I've read about PPC's possible ability to break down liver collagen, but will it also break down collagen in other parts of the body? Thanks There is no quick fix for an unhappy liver... ThanksI've been researching PPC since I started taking it and I can't find any down side to it... The guys who know say there is no toxic dosage even at 9 to 12 PPC per day. Some folks with Hep-C are taking high dose PPC without problem. If PPC disrupted collagen/fibrin too much, it should cause clotting problems, but as far as I can find, it does not. This stuff (PPC) saved my skin! I was having chemical exposures at work during the day and drinking beer at night, and this caused me some damage. I've been taking 3 PPC per day for over a year now, and never felt better. Please give it, and SAMe a try. Take SAMe on an empty stomach twice a day, and PPC with every meal. You should notice a difference in 30 days or less.

  • I just want to share my own experience, I dont have very smooth bowel movement, and made me feel jaded and heavy, fat etc. I tried Ultimate Cleanse from GNC, it works well. I have tried Bowtrol Colon Cleanse, feels great, keep colon healthy. Every 6 months, I like to do a lemonade diet cleanse for body cleansing. The Utlimate Cleanse from GNC is a bit more expensive than Bowtrol Colon Cleanse. But both are good. Lemonade diet cleanse - you need to follow a well guided plan in order to go through it smoothly and successfully.

  • The bowtrol tip is a good one, I've heard a lot of positive things about it.The big thing at the moment seems to be using "natural" products that are heavily promoted as natural and can solve every condition under the sun.I'm not saying that they can't, but if someone thinks that they may have cirrhosis of the liver, as per the OP, then I'm not sure that these are the best option.

  • I have heard of people taking Olivamine for the colon and have heard some good things about it. Have any of you heard about their supplements?

  • I think so. You should do a liver cleanse plus avoid foods/things that might abuse your liver like eating the food that is bad for the liver, smoking, excessive drinking of alcohol, etc.
