Spotting

I don't know if I'm on the right board for this:

I had an ultrasound and was told I had a cyst in each ovary (which my doctor said will probably go away on it's own) and a small fibroid. I always had normal periods. My periods would last about 5 days. In Dec, my period was heavy (bright red) and long (10 days), in Jan, my period was heavy but not as heavy as in Dec and lasted 8 days. In Feb, my period wasn't really heavy and lasted about 6 days. Yesterday (3 days after my period ended), I spotted alittle and today I'm spotting even more, like I'm getting my period again. I'm on iron pills because I'm alittle anemic. I'm going to be getting a IUD inserted. Is the spotting coming from the cyst or the fibroid? This is making me nervous. Any suggestions?

Thank You

Bernice

  • Your frequent vaginal bleeding and heavy, painful menstrual bleeding could be caused by either the cyst or the fibroid. At any rate, IUD should tone down your cycle and the pain. However, the fibroid(s) problems may not cease as unlike the cyst of the ovaries which tend to increase activity with the onset of your menstrual cycle. The fibroid is a tumor with functions independently of your menstrual cycle, which might be the reason for spotting and irregularity. The IUD can only help at this point. I would try it out and explore possible diet measures to help you cope a littler more.
