Hi everyone, i'm new to the site so am not sure how to use everything properly so i am sorry if i do anything wrong :)

My name is Brad and I am 17 years old. A few weeks ago i was lying in bed the night after i had been out the night before drinking with friends.

Whilst laying in bed, i felt my heart go funny and, what i can only describe as, it felt like it stopped for a split second. I felt as though i was going to pass out, i quickly got up and went to inform my mum of what was going on, i was really panicking and my heart rate was ridiculously fast.
I had a rushing feeling down both arms and i felt very dizzy and short of breath.

My mum rang the ambulance and i was hooked up to a heart rate monitor where it showed my heart rate as 144 beats a minute when the average heart rate is between 70 and 80.

Has anyone got any idea what this could be down to? The hospital put it down purely to a panick attack but i still struggle with shortness of breath and chest pains in the left side of my chest although i have been given an asthma pump?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Hi, your posting came out hard to read, but it sounds like you had a rapid heart rate after drinking. Sounds like alcohol is not your friend. As young as you are, you should have a complete heart workup, to see if there is an underlying problem. But you may be allergic to alcohol. If there were any drugs involved, they could be the culprit too. Be careful. Marionstar

  • A heart workup: see a doctor and tell him what happened; get an EKG and tell him you want to make sure you don't have any congenital heart problem. You may need to have a stress test. Of course, he may attribute everything to the alcohol, and not want to test you...Alcohol is also very toxic if you lack some B vitamins. Is there any history of heart disease or alcool intolerance in your family? Marionstar
