Numbness of hands and arms

I hope someone may have an explanation, for the past few months I have had numbness in my hands, i lose some strenght and have to stop what i am doing in order to get the blood flowing into my hands again, even something as simples as chopping vegetables brings about numbness, and whe i sleep if my arms are above my head they go numb, sometimes even if my arms are bent i lose circulation..
and help would be great
