Hi all, Back in June of 2010 after pushing a car, i took chest discomfort and a shortness of breath. Now to cut a long tory short the discomfort got worse and i ended up in coronary care. All tests were done on me came back clear. I was then sent for an angiogramme where they found a narrowing of the artery and i had a stent fitted. Doc said afer inflating stent that he did not think it was the cause of my discomfort. Ended up back in CC again. Got barium swallow that came back clear. Now i still have chest discomfort and attacks of breathlessness. Can't get back to work and no one seems to know where to turn to next. Hoping someone can some ideas,Many thanks Stephen. age 51.

  • I cannot offer you any help or diagnosis but I can tell you I have much the same thing. Chest pain & breathlessness on exertion, ie, walking up a very slight incline or upstairs. A year ago besides working full tiem as a nurse on a heavy ward I went to the gym and walked very fast & walked long distances. I have had asthma for a very long time and it is not the asthma because it is a different breathlessness and chest pain than any I have experienced with my asthma. Also, the bronchodilator does not help. I was commenced on GTN spray & it helped, then they gave me tildiem LA which helped even more and I no longer needed to use GTN> However, I had a stress echo & they said it was normal, even though I had dreadful chest pain, breathlessness, felt sick and like i was going to pas out - & they said my BP dropped. Then I ended up in Coronary care because the chest pain did not go away after half an hour and I had a raised Troponin and ST elevation on my ecg when I got to A&E from the stress echo unit. I was treated for a heart attack, told I had had a mild one & then later I was told I had not had a heart attack! The 2nd troponin was normal. Then I had an angiogram - got chest pain during it when they put the fluid in. Result? Normal coronary arteries! Consultant told me he did not know why I am getting the chest pain & breathlessness or why the GTN or tildiem work but he sees it all the time! What none of the doctors seem to realise is there must be something causing this! I am not anxious - just fed up that I can no longer enjoy active pursuits & was hoping for something to be found that was treatable....not just left to get on with this. I have gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and it could easily cause chest pain but no-one seems to have heard of it causing the breathlessness and there seems to be no reason why tildiem LA improved things, hence, my GP stopped it!One thing I certainly know though, after what the cardiac specialist said about seeing it all the time, surely someone should be trying to find out what is going on with these patients / what the cause is??? Shouldn't we be looking at this more closely?

I have been tested for everything from allergies to cancer and NOTHING! No answers. I want my life back, I want to live normal, but 13 doctors can't figure out what is going on with me.
