Hi, was diagnosed with Cardiomegaly about 17 years ago after a back injury, before my surgery. The doctor said it was because I was an athlete in Highschool. Was 32 at the time. Am now 49 and went to doctor for complete checkup. Had an EKG done and was informed I had had a heart attack at some time. Could the Cardiomegaly been the cause of this, and should the doctor looked into treatment of my diagnosis? Thanks for any advise, Rich! Now am going in for a Nuclear Persantine Stress Test, and a Nuclear Excercise Cardiac Stress Test. Also scheduled for an Angeoplasty. Live in Las Vegas,NV.

  • Cardiomegaly is an enlargement of the heart and it is likely due to your athletic history. I have a similar background and as well, my ekg readings suggest something is very wrong (left atrial abnormality & septal infarction). As far as I know an enlarged heart is not harmful.
