I was diagnosed with throat cancer in June. Since then I have had 6 weeks of radiation and chemo. I finished the radiatiion and chemo treatments 4 weeks ago. Now I am having numbness and tingling to my hands, it is hard for me to pick up objects. Could this be from the radiation and chemo? If so, how long will it take for this to correct itself?

You must realize how toxic the drugs/methods used to eradicate cancer are.Symptoms may appear the to be the strongest just after your chemotherapy treatment, and can last until 3-5 months after treatment has been completed. Symptoms may lessen over time, but it's a gradual process that requires several months to resolve.Unfortunately, in some cases, the damage is irreversible and may not diminish in intensity. It's important to report any symptoms of neuropathy to your cancer doctor during and after treatment. Discuss with your doctor the options for rest periods from chemotherapy, dose reduction or delays in treatment to lessen your symptoms. My source used is the Mayo Clinic.Again, please inform your physician of your condition, as even though it may be a slight possibility, after the chemotherapy/radiation course you have taken, you have a very increased chance of contracting Leukemia, which can also account for the Peripheral Neuropathy. I am pretty sure it is a side effect of the other treatments, though, so please don't worry.Good luck to you.
