Hi! I have just had a routine blood test and the results are very strange: RBC count: 7.04 mil!!!, MCV: 54fl!!!, HGB: 12.2g, HCT:37.9%, MCH: 17.3 pg!!!, RDWcv:17.4%, normal platelet and WBC counts. In this test there were NO Iron measurement or the other substances like feritin and so on...Of course these will be measured in the following tests. But I am very anxious by now what this could be, because my doctor seems very confused, and I read all I could read in the medical books, and on the Internet, but couldn't find a disease with such strange combination of values. I was always considered anemic and was 'weaker' than the average males, hadn't a RBC count since childhood, now I'm 27 but the last time I had such a test was 11 years ago, but at that time only these values were measured RBC count: 3.75 mil., HGB: 11g. and told to eat food with many Iron, that was all. So could someone have an idea what this could be? Obviously I seem to have microcytic RBC, but why are they so many? If it were iron deficiency shouldn't they be in low number? In the family there are no strange diseases like hemoglobinopathies or sideroblastic anemia and I don't feel worse, only the same weakeness since I know myself, neither have no other serious diseases (at least I don't know) only a cronic rhinitis ( I cannot breath well on my nose, and when I wake up I'm always with open and dry mouth) and my doctor says that this could lead to hipoxemia ( especially beacuse this test was very early in the morning), and this combined with iron deficiency could give these results. I would be very grateful if you have some ideas, of course as I said...there will be further investigations but until then I am VERY anxious, because in my country, especially now that many medical staff are in vacantion, these tests are 'moving' very slow, if you know what I mean :( .
