Petechiae or not?

I have been experiencing lighthly scattered petechiae since October and have been to 3 internists, 3 dermatologists, 1 family practitioner, and 1 hematologist all who have looked at them and pretty much blew them off as nothing to worry about. Three of these professionals have said they dont believe they are petechiae but the dermatologist at the Mayo clinic confirmed my beliefs that they are (although, he didnt think there was any reason to be concerned). He told me that in many cases they dont know the cause for them. I have had tons of blood work (CBC, platelet function, liver function, autoimmune, hepatitis, mono, etc) and everything has come back normal on all tests (most were done more than one time as well). Although I have had these tests done I can NOT let it go. I worry sick about them every day and have let them totally take over my life. I just want a definitive explanation as to why I still have them almost 7 months later. I will say that they come and go (especially if I push on them, which I am assuming is causing the blood to be reabsorbed back in to the tissue) almost daily and that they arent in clusters and are maybe 5-10 scattered across legs and stomach primarily on any given day. I have just read to much that has me living in horror that eventually they will tell me it is caused by something terminal. It would also ease my mind to know if anyone else has these and are told not to worry. I just dont know another soul. Thanks for listening!

  • I have something that sounds very similiar. Mine range in size from pinpoint to about the size of a penny. The doctors that i have seen also seem to think its no big deal, but like you i am highly concerned. I have absolutley no other symptoms that have shown up on tests or that i notice in my day to day life. Nothing seems to help them heal or go away. Have you been able to find a cause since your last post?
