Mystery Lump!

I had a small lump around my lymph node area of my neck about 1/2 way down my neck initially noticed 17 years ago. I was told it was nothing just to have it check every few years. A few weeks ago I started experiencing sore glands that I felt the discomfort both inside and outside of my neck. That lump I had on my neck has now shrunk down to the size of a pencil tip. Anyone able to relate? Is this maybe just something that drained years and years later?? Any info would help.. Thanks
