I have been diagnosed with the above due to an on-going iron deficiency, yet I take 3 iron tablets a day equally 210% of my RDA.

I am anaemic and my MCV has fallen from 90 to 60 over the last few months.

How can this happen when i have taken this much iron for over a year?

  • I've got the same problem. I'm a vegitarian and have been told that if I would just eat a lot of meat - my body would be able to store the iron and use it better. It's better to get your iron from food rather than supplements... at least that's what I've heard.I, however, am still on supplements.I also just found out that I have a carbon monoxide leak in my house that has been ongoing for a long time. I read that- THAT can cause you to have anemia if you have mild poisoning from that.Just a thought....Hope you feel better soon and figure out what the problem is!

  • Hi p1666, If your Iron levels are not going up...your body may have an absorbtion problem..which you may have to get Iron by injection..it happens to some people...if this works..the injections will have to be done for the rest of your life. Don't let the anaemia go on for very long..it can have damaging effects for other parts of your body that may/may not be fixable. TAKE CARE...GOOD LUCK...SKEETER.
