High WBC & Infections

For the past 8 years, I have had an elevated WBC. Ranging anywhere from 12-20 (on a normal basis). I have been tested for everything imaginable, including Leukemia...all which came back ok.
I keep getting unexlplained infections. 2 months ago I was admitted into the hospital for a Kidney infection that required me to be on IV antibiotics for 24 hours and had a WBC of 26. It came on suddenly. Never had any symptoms until the day I went to the hospital. The ER Doc was concerned that I was asymptomatic. I had no fever, and no pain until that very morning. I was told I had strands of infection hanging off the kidney. The Dr was amazed that I was not in pain sooner, and asymptomatic. He wanted me to go in for more testing since the WBC was so high, but I refused.
Last week I had to have 3 teeth pulled due to a severe jaw bone infection that also came on just as suddenly.
Is my body not fighting infections the way it should?? Is this something I should be concerned with?? I guess my real questions is...I had/have an oncologist. He seems to think its ok that I have a normal high wbc. Should I get a second opinion? Should I be seeing someone else? are these as said by my Dr *severe* asymptomatic infections ok??
