High platelet count

Hi everyone... I have read through some of the posts from a few years ago regarding high platelet counts... everyone seems to have had an underlying cause to their raised count.

My Raised count was discovered 6 months after a biopsy of a breast lump (non cancerous but with active cells) aside from a few infections that followed the biopsy I have no other (locatable) major health problems, I havn't had an accident and my hormone levels are normal.

My count is currently at 611 ... previous tests showed results of 617..605..546...607 This has been going on for over 6 months... My symptoms include..

Tiredness (often it comes on suddenly... I will be happily doiing something then will need to go and lay down)
Irregular loose (sometimes watery) bowel movements (it is VERY rare that I will have a well formed movement)
Muscle pain in my arms, legs and even neck
Headaches
Unexplained sharp pains in my sides (they are rare and only last a few seconds)
Weakness
Mood swings
I feel like I constantly have the flu
Trouble swallowing
Wheezing
Breathing trouble
Occasionally dizzyness or disorientation
Stomach pain (occasional)

Does anyone else have this list of symptoms with a high platelet count? My Doctor doesn't seem too concerned and does not believe that the tiredness and headaches etc are related to the count....

I on the other hand would like to know what the ***l is wrong with me!!

I'm supposed to have another blood draw in two days and then I guess we will figure out where to go from there.

I (like everyone else I seem to encounter with high platelets & these symptoms) have been told that my symptoms have nothing to do with my platelet count.... my question to the doctors are... how can it be unrelated when I can pull about 50 examples of others with the same symptoms all with raised platelet counts!! There surely MUST be a connection .... in any case I will definately keep you posted.. There are apparantly other markers in my blood that are raised slightly... indicating an inflamation somewhere in the body... So far I have had several blood tests and more recently a colonoscopy which came back clear... I too hope that you get some answers ESPECIALLY being a mother of 2!! That is hard work enough without adding in all of the symptoms you are experiencing!!Keep me posted!!

  • I have many of those same symptons yet my hematologist says fatigue is not related to thrombocytosis -- yet this was the first major symptom for which I was seeking medical help! I can't believe that fatigue is not part of the disease. I feel validated that there are others experieincing these same symptoms. Hi everyone...
