Over the past 3/4 years my wbc has been high, and gradually going up. In 2005, it was at 11.8 and I was tested for leukemia, and tests came back ok. In 2008 I was again tested for leukemia when my wbc was at 14.5, and again came back ok. The docs keep telling me they want to *watch* the counts. And they keep increasing. This week, again they did a cbc...and the count is now at 18.5...and again they just tell me to keep watching and keep getting a cbc every few months. I am confused as to what we are wtching it for. They keep telling me i am just a person who has a high count. IF thats the case...1) why keep watching it?? and 2) why does it keep going up?? shouldnt or wouldnt it just stay stable? I dont know if I should go see a hematologist? what exactly are the docs keeping an eye on?
just to give you a few levels that might help...
wbc 18.5 normal is 4-11
neutrophils is at 80% normal is 40-74 % not too far outta range
lymphocytes is 15% normal is 19-48% also not to far outta range
should i be more concerned enough to go see someone else?
