Sciatic pain after operation..

Hey guys,

4 years ago I had an operation on a dehydrated disc (I think L5-S1) which was sciatica. The disc in question was removed successfully.

Since then and more noteably in the last year, the pain which I was having before (in my lower back) has returned and is now worse.

On top of that my right leg is now twitching and physically quivering like there are little bugs in there. It hurts 24/7, severely. Every second of every day, I am in severe pain. The twitching is seen in the calf but the pain is prominent throughout the entire leg (has only recently begun to affect my thigh too).

I don't understand why this is still happening? They did an MRI scan and found the disc to be causing the trouble - and removed it. How come the pain is now worse and still there at all? Still on the same side of my back as well (the right).

Anyone have any idea's, help and/or guidance??

Much appreciated and thank you.

  • Unfortunately, many like you get poor results from disc surgery. You may be having this problem due to scar tissue forming in the foraminal canal or from stenosis, or it may be that the disc level above the original level is now acting up. Those quivering movements in your muscles are called faciculations, and they do suggest nerve damage. You should get an MRI of the lumbar spine, and a second opinion from another surgeon. Good luck.
